the method

The foundation of all of my training is reward based. Teaching through games, play, and fun helps that dog to learn quickly, and want to do the right thing.

The rewards themselves vary and it is important to create a balance between the variety- food, toys, play, and praise. This keeps the dog guessing, and working hard regardless of what the reward is.

Positive based training is about teaching the dog to do the right thing, and putting so much value to it that it becomes the default. Positive training is not permissive training. Although there are very little corrections with this type of training- your dog is still not allowed to be naughty. Through repetition, consistency, and rewarding for the right behaviour, your dog is taught to respond to your cues, and have some self control even when excited or distracted.

As with all things- there are many different ways to teach the same thing. A Positive approach is my chosen method, and I've seen some pretty great results from it. From well behaved family dogs, to high scoring Obedience dogs.
